Hi, I’m Tom
For the last 12 years I’ve been working as a music producer, engineer, remixer and composer. I split my time between working on music for artists and record labels, and projects for media such as television commercials and video game soundtracks.
Between 2004 and 2008 I worked as an in-house engineer at what was one of London’s biggest recording studios – The Townhouse. In 2009 I moved from working purely on music for release, to taking on media, synchronisation and game projects.
Most of my time is spent working on electronic and pop music or at least music that’s electronically influenced, although I have been fortunate enough to work with many different kinds of artists.
I’ve worked on sessions with artists including Brian Ferry, Mary J Blige, Lilly Allen, Take That, Estelle, Corrine Bailey Rae, Damon Albarn, Muse, Snow Patrol, The Coral and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
I’ve officially remixed, co-remixed or ghost remixed a diverse range of over 30 artists including Lady Gaga, Bloc Party, White Lies, The Heavy, Hybrid, Kele, MS MR, Coldcut, Jamiroquai and Simply Red!
I’ve contributed over 50 pieces of original music to PlayStation 3 and 4 games, and written and produced original music used in advertising campaigns by Microsoft, Nike, Mercedes, Sony, Hugo Boss, KFC, Coca Cola, Nickelodeon and ASDA amongst others.
I’ve performed on ‘Later With Jools Holland’ and at Glastonbury.
I’ve also released many tracks across various labels using aliases including Russha, Xcalibr, Dascyllus and Tropixx.
I was enlisted by director Chris Cairns to create the music for a new Sony Experia XZ commercial – the first smartphone to have a 960 fps video camera 🙂 Chris says of the commercial:
“Sony invited me to design a series of scenes which would look cool in slow-motion so that a mob of journalists and bloggers could film them in super slow-motion on Sony’s new smartphone. I worked with is this good? to build and run the scenes and we cut a series of films from the journalists footage.”
I’ve written the music for a new worldwide MTV TV promo in conjunction with BMG Production Music. I can’t get a copy or find it online but I’m sure it’s out there somewhere 🙂
I’m part of a panel speaking at a new music conference Music Cork in Cork, Ireland on 11th May 2017 about music for synchronisation.
My track We Going Hard Feat. Kdub & Fuce Lee has been licensed for use in the new video game Steep.
Steep is an online open world extreme sports video game developed by Ubisoft Annecy and published by Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game places a great emphasis on online multiplayer, focusing on competing in various winter sporting challenges with other players online.
Here’s one of the trailers – my track is only in the game, not in the trailer 🙂
A track I made a while back for Altitude Music album Massive Gritty Riffs has been placed in episode 11 of The Grand Tour, the new Amazon Original show, featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. Here’s the series trailer 🙂
I’ve collaborated with French composer and producer David Baluteau on a track for the Bibliotheque Music library album Pop / Electro / Dance Vol.2 🙂
My track Game On was used by Channel 4 in their coverage of the Japanese F1 Grand Prix 🙂
Released today on Ninja Tune is a track I co-wrote and added production to. Flight, part of the Bullnose Step EP from Bogus Order was publicly announced this week via Tiny Mix Tapes with streams of other tracks from the EP Bullnose Step and Ex Voto.
‘The first-ever number in Ninja Tune’s storied catalogue belongs to an act with the dubious name of Bogus Order. 26 years after the fact, they are coming out with another slab of big beat vinyl for the old school heads.
The track is out on digital and 12″, here’s the lovely artwork 🙂
My track Amaranth has been licensed for this new Xbox ad! That snare still sounds as good as the day I programmed it! 😉
My remix of Turn Up by The Heavy has been placed in the new film from Nike Football and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Just a week after finishing the remix, I was asked to try and work the music in to the film, and was taken on by Wieden + Kennedy as the music editor for the 6 minute spot. 2 and a half months later the film went online on 9th June, and after just 3 days has had over 24 million views. The TV premier was on Friday during the first game of the 2016 Euros between France and Romania.
The instrumental of my track Do It Real Easy Feat. Sarah Pirwany has been place in episode 108 of Vice and Thrasher magazine’s skateboarding TV show King Of The Road. The show is only on US cable, so here’s the trailer! 🙂
My lovely colleagues / chums at Ninja Tune have commissioned a remix by me of Turn Up from The Heavy‘s new album HURT & THE MERCILESS. This will be my third remix for the band using my Xcalibr guise, following remixes of the smash songs What Makes a Good Man and How You Like Me Now. This is the first band I’ve remixed three times – Jamiroquai comes a close second with two.
Recently got some new stuff for the studio, including a lemon tree! Yes, my studio is filled with so much natural light that I can grow fruit whilst I’m laying down beats. Who said men couldn’t multitask 😉
The instrumental of my track Paradise feat. Ciara Haidar was featured in a VT with Olympic Bronze medalist Jenny Jones going around the LAAX slope style contest.
The instrumental of my track Afterglow Feat. Zoe Devlin was used in a ITV Encore promo for Houdini + Doyle over Christmas 2015!
Two of my tracks Weapons Down and We Are Made of Stars were used in the BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2015 broadcast, on 20th December to over 20 million viewers. Here’s the instrumental of We Are Made Of Stars during the Andy Murray segment.
